Silver Gelatin Darkroom is a documentary-photography system from the heyday of black-and-white film printing, 1950 to 1990. The room is near-total darkness lit only by a single deep-red safelight; the print supplies every gray. It borrows the Zone System rigor of Ansel Adams and the street reportage of Magnum. Tonality is the whole craft here: a full black-to-white scale, no color but the safelight, film-frame borders and contact-sheet grids. Type is condensed grotesque and typewriter mono, set in uppercase technical labels — the look of developer trays, exposure notes, and archival print sleeves.
