Tarot de Marseille

Free

The Tarot de Marseille is the canonical European tarot pattern: bold black woodblock outlines filled with flat pochoir stencil colour in a strict limited palette. Nicolas Conver's 1760 deck fixed the form — red, ochre, blue, flesh and occasional green sit in unshaded fields, registration drifting a hair off the line. It is craft, not illustration. Here the deck is staged on its own stencil-blue ground, the stated primary pulled from background to centre stage. Vermilion and ochre carry accent, the black outline holds everything together, and nothing is allowed to blend, gradient, or soften into modern shading.
