Ansel Adams Zone System

The Ansel Adams Zone System renders the world as a silver-gelatin print: a measured tonal ladder running from Zone 0 max-black through paper-base highlight. Codified by Adams and Fred Archer, it turned exposure and development into a precise grayscale language.

This design system honors that discipline. The ground sits in deep Zone II–III shadow — never cream, never white — and a single luminous highlight anchors every composition the way the moon anchors Moonrise, Hernandez. No color, only light.
